Description

    Thallus in a small upright or hanging bush of 5-10 cm, very branched, formed of branches starting from the same point, narrow, 1-2.5 mm wide, a little flattened, smooth surface with sometimes rare pseudocyphellae towards the margin, greenish-gray in wet weather, yellowish-gray in dry weather. Apothecia usually present, lateral, first in an urn then sessile, 1-3 mm in diameter, flat disc, ochraceous-pinkish, fine margin, concolorous to the thallus. 8-spore asci. Hyaline spores, elliptical, 1-septate, 12-17 x 4-7 µm according to the literature, 11-14 x 4-5 µm according to our measurements. Photobiont: green algae. C-, K + yellow then red or K + red, P + red. Mediterranean and Macaronesian species found on the small branches of trees and shrubs in humid areas, in particular on islands. N.B. Species very similar to Ramalina farinacea to the point of being considered by some authors as the fertile form of this species.
