Thallus crustose, rather thick (0.3-0.5 mm thick), fissured and bordered, areoles shiny if not covered with bloom, sometimes of several colors; brownish-gray, coppery-gray, coppery-brown in dry weather, more glaucous with greenish reflections in humid weather, sometimes bordered with a whitish relief line, sometimes in contact with other crustacean species a dark gray hypothalle.
