Primary thallus formed of squamules with incised or indented margins, upper surface gray-greenish, lower surface whitish, more or less soredate, in old age these squamules can become orange-brown to orange from their base (and then K + purple). Podetions 1-2 cm high, terminating in a point or in a truncated cup with rare growths, base scaly, middle part scaly by small plates, upper part sorediate, sometimes with small bright red globular apothecia. C-, K-, KC-, P-, UV + white. Rare taxon found in the humid moors at the foot of rocks or dead trees.
