Description

       Primary thallus formed of small incised squamules, not very important and more or less persistent. Podetions in relatively short and squat scyphus 0.5-2 cm high, corticate and soredate, granular with micro-granules, sometimes with small squamules at the base, greenish-gray with often brownish areas. Globular apothecia, brown, infrequent at the margin of the scyphus. C + red (fleeting) or C + yellow, or C + orange, K + yellow-orange, wine red, KC + wine red, P + red, UV + white-blue. Species found on acidic humus of forests or glades. N.B. "Species" very close to Cladonia grayi from which it is only separable by its chemistry and therefore considered by some authors as a simple chemical form.
