Description
     Foliose thallus formed by lobes with wavy and upturned edges 2-8 mm wide, nested one within the other to form a large rosette, upper surface very finely chapped (magnifying glass) greenish-brown, greenish, in humid weather, gray- brownish a little reddish in dry weather, orange-saffron underside with veins and some rhizines. Innate apothecia slightly set in a small cavity in the thallus, round or oval, at first reddish brown then dark brown at the end, flat disc sometimes a little convex but also concave. Utriform asci with 6-8 spores. Spores oblong, brown with non-smooth surface, 1-septate, 35-45 x 10-12 µm according to literature; 30-55 x 10-13 µm according to our measurements. Photobiont: Coccomyxa and cyanobacteria: Nostoc. Medulla: orange-red K + purple. Mountain and alpine species coming to the ground among the mosses, in particular in the snowy valleys.
