    Thallus crustose, usually thin, sometimes inconspicuous, continuous, flat, but after becoming thick, cracked, verrucose, pale grey, grey-brownish, prothallus most often not visible. Apothecia abundant, 0.3-0.9 mm diam., sessile, sometimes crowded together, disc flat then slightly convex,dark brown becoming dark, exciple concolourous to the thallus. Ascospores (1)-3-(5)-septate, 18-30 x 9-14 µm. Photobiont: Trebouxia. Chemical spot tests negative. Strong maritime trends, on compacted grounds, mosses, heathers an dead armeria.*
