Ramalina pollinaria (Westr.) Ach.

      Species very similar to Ramalina canariensis or Ramalina lacera but more finely branched and divided, forming a small bush of 2-5 cm with narrower lobes of 1-4 mm with a brighter surface of cartilaginous appearance and especially many small nodules or growths towards their ends, light green, light yellowish-green. Soralies oval, ulcerative, in thick lips, on the face of the lobes but especially terminal or lateral. Apothecia absent or very rare, at the end of the lobes. Photobiont: trebouxioid. Negative chemical reactions. Medulla: UV +/- very pale blue. Dry and sheltered rocks, old walls by the sea, rocks and bark of trees inland to the mountains. N.B. Easy to confuse with Ramalina lacera and Ramalina canariensis which have less divided branches and no nodules, but also with other species "in bad condition" with which this species can suggest.

N.B. It would be a Ramalina pollinaria grp complex. which would include 3 species including Ramalina europea Gasparyan, Sipman and Lüking which would be characterized by punctiform soralia coming at the top of very fine twigs with 'aspect of thorns' but some lichenologists consider this difference insignificant just like the DNA differences.
