Synonyms:

Family: LECANORACEAE

Habitat: Xeric supralittoral  zone

Description

Thallus thin or thick according to its development, composed of small granules, more or less covered with minute blastidia, 0.1 mm diam., clustered and forming small cottony heaps, uneven and cracked, more or less humpy, grey-ochraceous, beige-ochraceous, ochre-orange, or ochre, according to hydration and exposition, overall general colour grey-ochraceous, prothallus blackish, most often absent. Apothecia sometimes scarce, 1-1.5 mm diam., scattered, disc flat or slightly convex, black, exciple persistent more or less wavy, brown-blackish. Ascospores simple, broadly ellipsoid, 10-18 x 6-9 µm. Photobiont: chlorococcoid. Thallus: C+ yellow-orange, orange, K+ pale yellow, KC+ orange, Pd+ pale yellow (reaction potentially variable according to the authors, sometimes K- and Pd-). On highly exposed siliceous foreshore rocks in the xeric supralittoral zone. N.B. Classification of this species is different according to authors. When the number of blastidia is very limited, rather difficult to distinguish from some morphotypes of Lecidella asema and its close varieties, but usually Lecidella meiococca apothecia are less convex and its thallus more greyish-ochre with cottony sections.*
