Description

    Thallus leprose, very thin, powdery, made of minute granular or globular soredia, 0.01-0.02 mm diam., yellow-lemon, bright yellow, golden yellow, more greenish in shadowed zones and tinged orange on old bark. Apothecia theoretically unknown in Europe, but see picture below, 0.2-0.5 mm diam., disc flat to slightly convex, brow-orange more or less yellow powdered, thin inconspicuous margin, becoming excluded. Ascospores 3-septate, constricted at central septum level, looking like 2 unequal ascospores. Photobiont: chlorococcoïde. Thallus: C-, K- or K+ brown-orange, KC- ou KC+ brown-orange, Pd- or Pd+ orange. Not especially maritime, slightly nitrophilic, on rough bark of trees, notably on the dry, shaded sides, often in crevices, of old Cupressus macrocarpa or Pinus maritima subjected to strong winds where this species can be seen from quite far; very rare on rocks.*
