Parmotrema pseudoreticulatum (Tavares) Hale Cf.

Synonyms:

Family: PARMELIACEAE

Habitat: Oceanic zone

Description

Very close to Parmotrema reticulatum and recently separated from. Differs from Parmotrema reticulatum by its lobe variations, thicker, capitate apical soralia, sometimes laminal but only on erect lobes, by the absence of marginal cilia or if present, scarce and very short. Upper surface of lobes characterized by an incomplete reticulum, often limited to some macula towards the lobe base, but old lobes getting thicker may be more or less pleated. Lower surface devoid of rhizine at lobe margin. Cortex: yellow; medulla: C-, K+ yellow > red, KC+/- red, Pd+ red-orange. Habitat apparently similar to Parmotrema reticulatum and often growing  together. Its distribution is not well known since this species (not accepted by all authors till recently) has not been systematically searched and discriminated from Parmotrema reticulatum. Not to be confused with  Parmotrema robustum on rocks which tinges are more greenish and soralia less capitate. N.B. Specimen presented here have the appropriate macroscopic distinguishing features but were not subjected to molecular marker analyses. Consequently the Cf. restriction applies here.
