Description

    Thallus minutely granular, sometimes to the point of looking farinose, crusty and tightly appressed to the substratum, to 15 cm maximum, grey-greenish, greenish with large orange patches covered with globose soralia, 0.2-1.5 mm diam., pale green-yellowish with orange spots. Apothecia usually absent or extremely rare, 0.5-1 mm diam., disc flat, grey, brown-greyish, exciple paler, wavy. Ascospores ellipsoid, 10-13 x 3.5-6 µm. Photobionte : Chlorococcoid. Thallus and soralia: C+ red, Pd- ; orange spots K+ purple. Uncommon (or understated), on humid grounds and on plant debris in heaths and ancient woodlands. See Trapeliopsis granulosa of which the thallus is more granular-verrucose, grey-whitish and devoid of orange spots and usually fertile.*
