Teloschistes flavicans (Sw.) Norman forme saxicole.

    Thermophilic species, bush-forming, erect or pendulous depending upon local conditions and substratum, 1-5 cm tall, branches highly ramified, notably to the ends, roughly  cylindrical or slightly flattened, golden yellow, yellow-orange, bright orange. On twigs, here and there, marginal soralia may be seen  with farinose to granular soredia. Apothecia seldom found under our climate, discs small, orange, exciple thin. Photobiont: Trebouxioid. K+ purple. On highly exposed and windy rocks of the foreshore, usually hardly accessible. This species is under decline in this habitat. Another yellower morph may be found sometimes at the top of the higher branches of trees in oceanic woodlands, although very rare now, and also under decline: see  Teloschistes flavicans forme corticole.

    This species is in strong decline and remains only in a few sites, highly exposed, and in the islands of Iroise Sea (West of Brittany).  The sites of the trees canopy have not been observed recently (two sites are known). This species is vulnerable and almost disappearing although the reasons of decline are still unknown (trampling over easily accessible coastal areas?).*

     This species has been proposed for protection at European level by the Bern Convention, it also appears in many red lists.
