Description

    Primary thallus made of small incised squamules, usually inconspicuous. Secondary thallus corresponding to podetia, erected, 2-6 cm tall, thin, sharp, sometimes furcate, farinose-sorediate on all the length, sometimes slightly squamulose and corticate towards the base, grey-green occasionally tinged brownish. Apothecia rare, at tips of podetia, brown-chocolate. Photobiont: trebouxioid. Thallus: C-, K-, KC-, Pd+ red. On dunes and Calluna sandy heathlands and also on acid sandy or gravelly soils. Cladonia subulata var. radiata displays podetia with irregular or distorded scyphi and pointed furcate apices antler-like;  Cladonia glauca and Cladonia rei are very similar but Pd-.*
