Ramboldia insidiosa (Th. Fr.) Hafellner
Lecidea insidiosa Th. Fr.
Parasite of Lecanora varia. The consequence of the infection at first is the blackening of host apothecia and later the emergence of blackish apothecia. Thallus combined with host thallus. Apothecia visible at first as black spots on host apothecia, later as genuine apothecia, more or less sessile, 0.2-0.5 mm diam., disc at first convex than rounded, blackish sometimes with bkue-greenish tinge when moist, margin paler, distinct only when young. Ascospores ellipsoid, 9-12 x 4.5-5.5 µm. Chemical spot tests negative or if positive, correspond to host reactions. Rare, parasite of Lecanora varia of which it is sometimes difficult to find parasite-free specimen (keep in mind that it is not the only parasite species).*
