Description

    Thallus crustose, granular, composed of small rounded granules (0.5-3 mm) more or less dispersed, whitish to pale cream-ochraceous. Apothecia lecanorine, 0.25-1 mm diam., scattered or clustered and forming small piles more or less covering part of the thallus, or crowded and distorted, protruding and markedly sessile, disc flat, pale brown to dark brown, often with blue-green spots (bandolensis green), exciple determinate, whitish. Ascospores simple, hyaline, ellipsoid, 8-12 x 5-6.5 µm. Cortex: C+ pink, K+/- yellow, KC+ red, Pd-; medulla : C-, K-, KC-, Pd-. Grows in the supralittoral zone on siliceous rocks (most often gneiss) or on rough and friable granite. Belongs to the Lecanora dispersa group and very close to Lecanora salina that also is C+ red but K-. Not to be confused with Lecanora andrewii which is C+ orange, KC+ red and Pd+ orange.*
