Anaptychia ciliaris subsp. mamillata (Taylor) D. Hawks. & P. James
Anaptychia melanosticta (Ach.) Trass
Physcia ciliaris f. melanosticta (Ach.) H. Olivier
Thallus 5-10 cm across, lobate, lobes branched forming narrow straps, 2-3 mm wide, 2-3 cm long, markedly intertwined, strap tips with concolourous cilia, upper surface tomentose -or not- according to exposition, dark brown olive when moist, dark brown-greyish when dry, lower surface lighter. Apothecia seemingly absent in our prospection area. Negative colored chemical reactions except C which discolors the brownish color and reveals a pale yellow color. Rare, typically on slightly exposed and well-lit acid rocks (schists, micaschists, etc.) of the xeric supralittoral zone (Iles and Heads), and very often together with Anaptychia runcinata that shares the same habitat. N.B. Some authors, based on the presence of intermediate specimen, consider this subspecies as a saxicolous and maritime form of Anaptychia ciliaris ssp. ciliaris. N.B. Heterodermia leucomela has a similar aspect but is more whitish.*
