Diploicia subcanescens (Werner) Hafellner & Poelt forme maritime méditerranéenne.
Thallus crustose, 3-8 cm diam., most often round, cracked towards the center, areolate, areoles slightly convex, placodioid, margin lobate, lobes narrow forming rosette, weakly convex, apices fan-shaped, little or not pruinose, grey-whitish, grey-glaucous, grey-pink, etc., lobe margin darker; soralia and soredia absent (conspicuous difference with Diploicia canescens) but instead presence of numerous distorted warts, grey-brownish. Seldom fertile. Apothecia lecideine, blackish, pruine absent. Ascospores dark grey, 1-septate, broadly ellipsoid, 9-11 x 5-8 µm. K+ yellow, KC+ orange, C+ pink, Pd-, UV-. Mediterranean and thermophilic, on coastal granite rocks exposed to humid oceanic winds. N.B. This species is solely considered by some authors as a morph of Diploicia canescens with abortive soredia.
