Differs from the type by its negative chemical spot tests (Chem c) C-, K-, KC- (seldom KC+/- yellow), Pd-. UV-. Thallus forming small tufts, composed of narrow branches, often black towards the base, sometimes at their tip, narrow and flattened, surface dotted with pale scars, notably towards the base. Ascospores ellipsoid, 1-septate, 10-17 x 4.5-5 µm according to our measurements. Rare chemotype, on vertical walls or below sheltered and weakly acid rocks in the mesic zone, sometimes in the xeric zone.*
