Zamenhofia coralloidea (P. James) Clauzade & Cl. Roux
Porina coralloidea P. James
Thallus limited to a mere coating, smooth, dark greyish, sometimes tinged pink or lilac when fresh (according to the literature), covered notably at the hyphae tufts with numerous cylindrical simple isidia, 0.1-0.2 x 0.05-0.07 mm, concolourous to the thallus, but tips paler and transluscent. Perithecia rare, immersed in the thallus (or sometimes beside the thallus), 0.3-0.4 mm diam., blackish. Ascospores colourless, markedly elongate, 9-11-septate, 40-60 x 8-13 µm. Chemical spot tests negative. Rare, inconspicuous and therfore potentially understated, on rough bark or old trees, notably Quercus in humid oceanic woodlands. N.B. Contributes, amongst Frullania, to characteristic dark brown spots on old oaks bark.*
