Lichens marins - Caloplaca sol A. Orange Cf.

Thallus crustose strongly attached to the substrate, continuous and relatively thick, cracked to crackle-areolated especially in the center which may present warty growths, dull orange, yellow-orange, yellow-ocraceous, yellow, fimbriate prothallus yellow. Apothecia relatively numerous especially towards the center, sessile, 0.6-0.7 mm in diameter, flat to weakly convex disc, a little pruinose, of an orange color a little darker than the thallus, fine margin, persistent, sometimes, but rarely, a little crenate, yellow. Polarilocular spores, elliptical, 11-14 x 6-7 µm with a thickening of 4-5 µm. K + purple. Maritime species coming on large rocks that are not too acidic and a little dirty (in particular the blocks of dikes) at or a little above Caloplaca marina with which it has been confused (and often in its company), but this last species differs mainly by its more granular and less homogeneous thallus, often blackened by cyanobacteria and its apothecia with a more convex disc with a more bright orange color.
