Description
Thallus thin, usually circular forming a crust on the surface of the leaf, lobed around the edge which gives it the appearance of a small faded flower placed on the leaf, 2-6 mm in diameter, green, greenish when young but becoming
white-yellowish, ocher-yellow, brown-ocher in patches with age (cockade appearance).
Perithecia almost completely immersed in the thallus, black and shiny with a distinct ostiole.
Spores elliptical, 1-septate, 14-24 x 4-6 µm.
Pycnidia in general numerous giving two kinds of macroconidia: bi or tetracellular with a mucous prolongation in the form of whip.
Photobiont:
Cephaleuros.
Thermophilic species of subtropical origin coming on the leaves of
Buxus sempervirens
in shade and in damp places.
