Description

Thallus crustose, strongly rimose and warty, sometimes a little areolate, forming rosettes bordered by radial arachnoid dendrites giving a lacy appearance, dirty whitish, cream, pale ochraceous. Apothecia as if placed on the thallus then almost stipitate and easily detachable, flat disc then quickly convex, pale brown, gray-brown, heavily powdered with bluish-gray, grayish bloom, lighter margin disappearing quickly. Ascospores simple, hyaline, elliptical, 9-14 x 6-7.5 µm. Photobiont: chlorococcoid. Thallus: C+ orange, K+ yellow, KC+ orange, P+ pale yellow, disc bloom: pale yellow. A species with mountain tendencies, growing on the inclined faces of siliceous rocks, more or less protected from rain.

_ Be careful of Lecanora subcarnea which can sometimes have the same habitat but which is C- and K+/- yellow.
