Thallus in a small pendulous bush, 5-12 cm long, formed of fine tangled strips, more or less hollowed out with longitudinal folds, with, especially towards the base, whitish longitudinal streaks, sometimes, but rarely, with oval soralia in this saxicolous form, the branches are frequently terminated by an arborescence of thin branches arranged in a “fish hook” or “hook” shape; the general coloring is yellowish gray, greenish gray. Very rare apothecia, spores 15-21 x 6 µm. Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia. Cortex: C-, K+ yellow → brown-red, KC+yellow a little orange, P+ red-orange; medulla: C-, KC+ yellow, P+orange. Rare thermophilic Mediterranean species found on vertical coastal rocks, especially limestone, much rarer on the branches of shrubs and trees bordering marine shores, see: Ramalina implexa forme corticole.

N.B. Can be confused (and has been!) with Ramalina chondrina but the latter species is Atlantic and C-, K-, KC-, P-.
