Description
Crustose thallus barely visible because buried in the bark, whitish, whitish-greenish, sometimes with a grey-purple hypothallus.
Arthonioid apothecia very variable: lirelliform, elliptical, etc... often united to form star-shaped patterns, 0.4-0.8 x 0.1-0.3 mm, sometimes more or less edged with purple-brown or blackish-brown, rarely with whitish pruinose masses.
Ascospores oblong to clavate, hyaline to slightly brownish at maturity, (2) 3 (4) septate, the apical cell larger, 16-18 x 7-8 µm.
Photobiont: trentepohlia.
Apothecia: K+ purple (Anthraquinones), thallus: C-, K-, KC-, P-.
Species coming on trees with smooth bark (
Corylus
) from very humid places (often peat bogs).

but without red-orange bloom.
