Description
Primary thallus formed of large squamules, 5-25 mm high, 2-7 mm wide, more or less rolled up on themselves, lobed, upper surface glaucous green in wet weather, greenish grey with glaucous tones in dry weather, lower surface whitish, slightly blackish at the base.
Hollow podetions, 5-70 mm high 2-3 mm wide usually ending in narrow and deformed pierced scyphae, provided with irregular proliferations and sometimes only subulate or branched, corticated surface, areolate with longitudinal cracks, greenish grey.
Apothecia quite rare, brownish at the margin of the scyphae.
Pycnidia frequent on the squamules or at the margin of the scyphae.
C-, K+ yellow → brownish, KC +/- yellow, Pd+ red, UV-.
Mountain and boreal species growing on the humus of forests, particularly conifers.
