Description
Primary thallus formed of small, barely visible squamules, especially with age.
Podetions slender, simple and unbranched, erect, finely granular, especially at the top, by soredia, the top is often terminated by a small star-shaped or crown-shaped cup, greenish-grey, olive-coloured, more brownish at the base.
Globular apothecia at the end of small proliferations located at the edge of the cups, brown.
Rounded pycnidia at the margin of the cups, brown.
K- or K+ brownish, KC-, C-, P+ red.
Sub-boreal or northern pioneer species occurring on poor soils (often with
Cladonia cristatella
).
