Description
Primary thallus formed of small scales less than 5 mm, green on the upper side, whitish on the underside.
Podetions 5-10 cm tall, 2-3 mm in diameter, simple and unbranched, ending in a point, corticate on their lower half and covered with mealy soralia on their upper half, sometimes with small scales towards the base, brownish-green, greenish-gray, darker and sometimes blackish at the base and brownish at the tip.
Apothecia very rare, brown.
Pycnidia very rare at the tip of the podetions, brown-black.
K-, C-, KC-, P+ red.
Mountain and boreal species occurring on sunny soils rich in woody debris.
Cf.
Cladonia coniocraea
uncorticate on the lower part of the podetions and larger scales of the primary thallus.
Cf.
Cladonia ochrochlora
with more yellowish colorations and podetions ending in a small cup at the top.
