Xanthoparmelia cumberlandia (Gyelnik) Hale Cf.

    Foliaceous thallus arranged in a rosette of 5-10 cm in diameter, not strongly attached to the substrate, formed of elongated lobes with rounded and more or less cut ends, flat and more or less imbricated. Smooth upper surface, yellowish-green in humid weather, bluish-grey-green in dry weather, absence of isidia and soralia; brownish lower surface with small simple rhizines. Apothecia generally numerous, substipitate, 3-10 mm in diameter, brown disc, dark brown, smooth, wavy margin. Elliptical ascospores, smooth, simple, 9-10 x 4-5 µm. Numerous pycnidia. Cortex: C-, K+ yellow → orange, KC-, P+ orange, medulla: C-, K+ yellow → dark red, KC-, P+ orange. Species coming on little exposed acidic rocks, mainly on the coasts (different populations?).

N.B. This taxon differs from Xanthoparmelia conspersa by its absence of isidia and a different chemistry, it is also always fertile, it comes on siliceous rocks or walls at the edge of the sea in small troops distinct from those of Xanthoparmelia conspersa which is a much more common species, it seems to correspond to the maritime taxon of the North American authors who recognized as this species the specimens presented here, but as they have not been sequenced we put Cf.
