Lecania atrynoides forme maritime des roches calcaires.
Differs from Lecania atrynoides by its occurrence on limestone rocks or weakly acidic schists of rocky shores subjected to seawater projections, its relatively thick thallus, continuous and cracked, greyish, whitish dirty, its numerous apothecia, not pruinose, at first reddish-brown then dark brown and finally blackish. N.B. This taxon seems to make the transition to Lecania turicensis whose thallus and apothecia are pruinose.
