Thallus foliose which can form rosettes of 5-10 cm in diameter, formed of lobes 2-4 mm wide with rounded and straightened ends, upper surface smooth and shiny, not powdery, colouration in cockade: greyish-brown in the center, gray pale towards the margin and finally brown at the margin, regularly covered with numerous circular or oval pseudocyphellae, 0.5-1 mm in diameter, white, giving soralia a little in relief, white then a little grayish in old age, brown underside. Sterile species. Cortex: K +/- yellow; white medulla: C + carmine red; KC + carmine red, K-, P-. Species with mountain tendencies, saxicolous (rarely corticole), coming on the vertical faces of large siliceous rocks.
