Description

Thallus crustose thin and not well defined, dark grayish, dark brown, blackish, black. Apothecia sessile, usually numerous, often in groups and more or less angular by compression, 0.3-1 mm in diameter, disc, concave, slightly convex but mostly flat, surface sometimes pruinose greyish, pale-brown, brown, brown-black, thalline exciple well-developed, persistent, slightly sinuous and sometimes a little crenate, greyish, dirty white. Asci with 8 spores, utriforme, 35-45 x 15-20 µm according to our measurements. Spores elliptical, colourless, simple (but sometimes giving the appearance of being 1-septate, especially in cotton blue), 8-16 x 4-7 µm according to the literature; 9-14 x 4-6 µm according to our measurements. Photobiont: chlorococcoid. No significant color chemical reactions. Corticolous taxon or growing on bare wood at the base of old trees not very far from the sea (Cupressus in our prospecting area) but also inland.

N.B. On damp wood and plant debris receiving sea water at the edge of the sea, we pass imperceptibly to Myriolecis hagenii forme lignicole de la zone aérohaline and in sea water to Myriolecis zosterae...
