Candelariella aurella Cf. forme corticole.
Thallus crustaceous, granular, sometimes inconspicuous and reduced to a few yellow granules on an abundant blackish, black prothallus. Apothecia small, 0.2 to 0.6 mm in diameter, disc flat, yellow, golden yellow, margin relatively thick and persistent, lighter, with a downy appearance by hyphae which bristle it. Octosporous asci, long utriform, 55-80 x 8-12 µm according to our measurements. Long elliptical, colorless spores, with a 1-septate aspect for the greatest number, 10-14 x 3-4 µm according to our measurements. Presence in the thallus of numerous cyanobacteria. Apothecia: C-, KC-, K-, P-. A rare or unnoticed taxon occurring on the bark of the base of the trunks of old (or dead and fallen) Cupressus at the seaside, often with or near Myriolecis hagenii.
N.B. Taxon very close to Candelariella superdistans (Nyl.) Malme but this last taxon is given as "associated" with Lecanora populicola, this is why our determination is perhaps only provisional.
