Enchylium polycarpon (Hoffm.) Otálora, Jørg. & Wedin
Collema polycarpon Hoffm.
Thallus foliose, 2-6 cm in diameter, formed of radially arranged lobes more or less overlapping, straightened at the margin, swollen, gelatinous and dark greenish (bottle green) if moist, brittle and blackish-brown if dry, no isidia. Apothecia generally numerous arranged throughout the thallus, initially warty then sessile, 2-3 mm in diameter, flat to slightly convex disc, red brown to blackish, margin clear and persistent. Spores hyaline, fusiform, (2)-3-(4)-septate, 15-28 x 6.5-8.5 µm. Photobiont: Filamentous Nostoc. Species with thermophilic tendencies growing on limestone or slightly acidic rock walls, subject to runoff.
N.B. Enchyllium tenax is a similar species but it is isidiate.
