Description
Primary thallus in carpet or small bush, formed of lobed squamules arranged in very cut strips more or less vertical of 0.5-2 cm in height, turned up in dry weather, margins sometimes with tiny whitish hairs, upper surface spotted, yellowish-green, lower surface of a slightly felted appearance, dirty whitish, yellowish. Podetia rare, in scyphus of 3-10 mm in height, the edge of the cup often with brown pycnidia. Apothecia not observed. Pycnidia quite numerous, especially at the margin of the lobes, large, sessile, pyriform to subglobose, brown-black to black. C-, K-, KC+ yellow, P+ red. Oceanic taxon belonging to the
Cladonia foliacea
complex occurring on slightly acidic and sometimes calcareous soils.
