Description
Thallus crustose, thin, rimose to areolate-verrucose, areole convex, 0.1-0.25 mm in diameter, grey-greenish slightly yellowish, sometimes with a black hypothallus in case of mosaic.
Apothecia lecideine, sessile, 0.2-0.5 mm in diameter, disk flat to slightly convex, ochre-orange, pale reddish-brown becoming blackish-reddish-brown in old age, slightly translucent in humid weather, sometimes covered with a whitish pruina, thin margin only visible at first and disappearing quickly and giving way to small whitish fragments.
Spores simple, elliptic, 8-15 x 3-6 µm.

Thallus: C- or C+/- orange, K- or K+/- yellow, KC- or KC+/- orange, P-, UV+ orange, K/UV+ green.
Thermophilic species of tropical origin, rare or confused, coming on the smooth bark of well-lit deciduous trees (especially street trees in town).
N.B. Very similar species, and long confused with
Lecidella elaeochroma
with which it can coexist, but the latter species has a smoother thallus, slightly larger and blacker apothecia with a longer persistent edge and slightly larger and wider spores.
