Aspicilia cupreogrisea (Th. Fr.) Hue
Very similar to Aspicilia intermutans but aerole surface is more irregular, greyer and slightly tinged with brown, apothecia discs are rougher and dark brownish. K+ yellow > red, KC+ yellow > red and Pd+ faint yellow-orange, and medulla: K- (but difficult to appreciate!) Rather common on siliceous or slightly acid coastal rocks of heads and capes of Finistère.
N.B. This species is very difficult to distinguish from Aspicilia intermutans with which it has crossed characters. Moreover, according to some French authors, Aspicilia cupreogrisea is a more thermophilic and Mediterranean species! Because of the confusion which reigns in this group we therefore present the "species", hereinafter thus named, with the usual reservations. See also Aspicilia cupreoglauca an even more closely related and perhaps conspecific "species".
