Evernia prunastri var. arenaria (Retz) Fr.
This variety differs from the type by its longer and paler straps, less crowded and more unfolded within the tuft, to 10 cm long, and its habitat: on ground, attached to plants without clearly visible attachment point. Quite common in dunes or aerohaline heaths. Very easily confused with Ramalina subfarinacea or Ramalina portuensis. N.B. This variety is not recognized by all the authors, it is nevertheless characteristic of the aerohaline heathlands and deserves at least the rank of form.
