Hypogymnia physodes forme des landes aérohalines.
Differs form the canonical type by its habitat, ground or within short Calluna heathlands, and by its lobes, flat, thin and smooth, slightly palmate, apices 'short-fingers-like'. This morph is rather common in aerohaline heathlands near the seashore. Up to now we have been unable to clearly assign a species name and this taxon still is under investigation. This taxon has its own characteristics and probably should be ranked to variety level. Very frequently with pycnidia
N.B. Not to be confused with Heterodermia subneglecta which occurs in the same habitat but which has cilia on the margin of the lobes and rhizines on the underside. Not to be confused with a parasitism starting relatively frequent with Lichenoconium erodens which causes localized discolorations of the thallus then brownish and finally blackish necrosis.
