Cladonia furcata subsp. furcata var. palamaea (Ach.) Nyl.
Differs from the type by its podetia, more or less lying on the ground, brown-greenish when moist, brownish when dry. This taxon is more thermophilic and may be found on well-lit slightly calcareous dunes or on sandy soils in clear woodlands. Very similar but not to be mistaken with Cladonia furcata subsp. subrangiformis of which the branches are tangled up, with white or farinose warts towards the base - which is pale K+ yellow.*
