Anaptychia crinalis (Schleich.) Vezda

    Thallus forming dense shrubs, 5-8 cm across, composed of long, narrow and flat straps, more or less branched, 0.2-1 mm wide, upper surface pruinose, fuzzy, margin with numerous wavy cilia, more or less dark greyish, overall thallus colour pale grey-brownish with tinge of purple or chocolate, turning to darker brown when old. Apothecia scarce, sessile or even at apices of a pseudo-stipe, sometimes with 0.2-1 mm long spinules on lower surface, visible in cross-sections, disc flat, grey-brownish, more or less dark greyish. Ascospores brownish, 1-septate, 35-46 x 17-22 µm. Photobiont: Trebouxia. C-, K-, KC-, Pd-. Rare species of humid mountain valleys under oceanic influence, coming on the bark of trees but also on the rocks of these forests. Cf. Anaptychia ciliaris a more common and ubiquitous species which is distinguished by its wider strips and more numerous apothecia, without spinules under their underside. N.B. Has a little appearance and coloring of naptychia ciliaris susp. mamillata but not the same ecology.
